To My District 24 Neighbors:
It has been a little bit since I updated you directly from Columbia. Busy schedules and a few technical difficulties stood in the way, but we’re back! I’ll send an update now with some of the things we’ve accomplished in the past few weeks and a state budget update on Monday.
As we approach the House debate on South Carolina’s state budget, which takes up much of my time in the first few months of session. We continue advancing policies focused on our priorities for 2026: safer communities, stronger schools, and a growing economy. Here’s a quick update on what we’ve achieved so far:
Strengthening Public Safety
Several bills moving through the House address concerns about rising juvenile crime. These proposals strengthen coordination between schools and law enforcement, ensure serious offenders face appropriate consequences, and invest in prevention programs that help young people get back on the right track. Our goal is simple: safer communities and clear accountability.
Supporting Law Enforcement
The House has also considered legislation to provide clearer protections for law enforcement officers and first responders while they are carrying out their duties. These men and women put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect our communities and deserve the tools and support necessary to do their jobs safely.
Education Transparency
I’ve long believed that parents deserve honest and transparent information about how their children are performing in school. Legislation moving through the House focuses on improving transparency in school grading policies and ensuring academic standards reflect real achievement.
Supporting Small Businesses and Local Agriculture
We also passed legislation designed to support small businesses and farmers across South Carolina. These measures reduce unnecessary regulations, help farmers sell directly to consumers, and provide targeted property tax relief to small businesses that allows our entrepreneurs to reinvest, hire, and grow.
